Is it a Ghost Town?

Yes and no.

This is the old Contrabando Movie Set that has been used for several movies over the years.

As you approach it on the beautiful drive of Texas State Highway 170, on the border of Mexico and Southwest Texas, it appears to be a small village. The drive runs through the Big Bend Ranch State Park and along the Rio Grande River. When you arrive at the village, you notice it’s abandoned and has all the looks of a genuine ghost town.

It was built in 1985 for the movie Uphill all the Way staring Roy Clark, Mel Tillis and Burl Ives. Since that time, it has been used for at least nine other movies – do you recognize any of these  buildings? Perhaps from The Streets of Laredo or Lone Star or Dead Man’s Walk?
